Burchfield Branch Park   Book Now See other Spotlights

If you enjoy bird watching, encountering a variety of wildlife, breath taking views, fishing, taking walks or you just need a little rest and relaxation come and visit us at Burchfield Branch Campground.

The Setting

Burchfield Branch formerly known as Old Lock 16 Park is located on Holt Lake. The lake is located within the lower Appalachian Mountain chain in the Cumberland Plateau. There are diversified forests due to the drop in terrain from the Cumberland Plateau regions to the East Gulf Coastal Plain. The snow wreath and the Alabama croton are rare plants that can be found within the forest. Holt Lake was formed by the damming of the Black Warrior River. Construction of the lock and dam was completed in 1966 which in turn allowed recreational developments such as Burchfield Branch. Millions of tons of commerce pass through Bankhead Lock & Dam yearly. Park visitors will have the opportunity to observe barges navigating to and from Bankhead Lock & Dam. For all you history enthuses please enjoy viewing the remnants of the Old Lock 16 structure which was build in 1916.
