Deep in a valley framed by oak-covered hills, with sailboats and sailboards skimming over its waters, Del Valle is like an alpine resort in the middle of the suburbs.
The Setting
The centerpiece of the park is a five-mile long lake, with all kinds of water-oriented recreation, surrounded by 4,316 acres of beautiful land for hiking, horseback riding, and nature study. Del Valle is also the eastern gateway to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, 28 miles of scenic backcountry trail. The Rocky Ridge Visitor Center on the lake's west side contains exhibits and information about the natural history of Del Valle and surrounding wilderness. Spring through fall, Sunol interpretive staff present nature activities; campfire programs; and natural and cultural history boat tours of the lake.
The Facility
The Del Valle Family Campground has 150 sites, 21 of them with water and sewage hookups (no electrical). The sites are served by centrally located toilet and shower facilities. There are also several youth group campgrounds, available by reservation.
