The Setting
Beach is framed by towering pines, perfect for sunning, swimming or even waterskiing.. Park made up of mixed hardwood and pine. When it opened in 1996, the park was originally named Caney Creek Lake State Park. It was later re-named after two-term Governor Jimmie H. Davis. Davis was also a country/western and gospel singer, popularly known for “You Are My Sunshine”, one of Louisiana’s official state songs.
The Facility
Park offers 73 improved campsites that all include electrical (20, 30 and 50 amp) and water connections. Campers have a choice of shaded, open or waterfront sites. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, tent pad, and a fire ring. The park also has 17 cabins and two lodges which each come with full kitchens and central air conditioning for those not quite ready to “rough it.” For those who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the park for a day, the park provides pavilions for larger groups, and 80 picnic sites for smaller groups. The park is also available to accommodate special events (reunions, weddings, meetings). Comfort stations and bathhouses are located in various parts of the park.
Park Features
Park offers two boat launches and a fishing pier. The group camp can sleep up to 120 people and includes a separate dining hall. Visit the Jackson Bienville Wildlife Management Area, located 12 miles southwest of Ruston. Visitors can enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, birding and wildlife viewing on 33,460 acres of upland pine woods and stream bottoms.
