Nestled on the confluence of the National Scenic Niobrara River and the Missouri River, this park offers amazing views, abundant wildlife and an overlook of the path the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery took on their historic journey.
The Setting
Niobrara State Park offers a wide range of outdoor experiences to any visitor, including the historical wonder of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery journey. Once inhabited by several bands of Native Americans, the park is now home to a wide range of wildlife, including bald eagle, white-tailed dear, beaver, minx, turkey, coyote, and a variety of other bird species. Groups of elm, hackberry, ash and other trees are scattered throughout the park and adorn the cliff areas along the rivers. Visitor can check out the site where mosasaurus bones have been found, the Mormon Monument, the Ponca Cemetery, the Standing Bear Monument, or go down to the river level to enjoy a view from the bottom of the cliffs upward. Scenic overlooks, river bluffs, wetland areas, river islands and a panoramic view of the entire river valley will knock the socks off of every visitor to this State Park.
The Facility
There are 19 cabins available (open year round), 69 camp sites with electrical hookups (30 amp) and 50 camp sites without electricity available, as well as Adirondack shelters for backpackers. This 1,314 acre park will keep everyone in the family entertained during their stay.

A great place to go in the winter, when the crowds are small and the wildlife is abundant, this Park provides the opportunities that you are looking for. Winter activities of fishing, cross country skiing, horseback riding, star gazing and nature hiking provide entertainment for all. All types of lodging are available for a visitor at any time of the year.
The song of the whippoorwill blends with the call of the coyote in a nighttime serenade. For the wildlife enthusiast, Niobrara offers ample photo opportunities or just the chance to observe the many species native to the area. History lovers will enjoy learning that the headquarters of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska are nearby and their history runs deep in the area. The name Niobrara actually comes from the Indian word for “running water.”
Listed as an International Birding Site by the Audubon Society, the rivers combine with forested areas provide phenomenal bird watching. Niobrara State Park is an oasis in northeastern Nebraska that should not be missed!
