Situated among the heavily wooded Platte River hills, right off the Platte River, this State Park offers some of the most challenging mountain biking trails, along with some of the most breathtaking views of the Valley below.
The Setting
This State Park is an innovative area that offers a wide range of activities and lodging choices, while keeping costs to a minimum and sits about halfway between the state’s two largest cities of Omaha and Lincoln. This Park is along the Platte River, up in the hills, which makes the terrain quite rugged and beautiful. Those who like to rise with the sun should indulge in a hike through the picturesque woodlands to enjoy the variety of flora and fauna.
The Facility
There are 52 cabins (with 21 open year round) available for lodging as well as 4 tepees that accommodate up to 8 all close to the activities offered at this 418-acre State Park. These tepees have been modified to include a wooden floor as opposed to the packed earth of the traditional dwelling.

Park Features
Nature lovers delight in the variety of flora and fauna found at the park. Rugged terrain provides awesome mountain biking opportunities in the summer and difficult cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Recreational equipment is available at Owen Landing, where you can rent a paddleboat if you desire. Fishing is catch and release and “kids only” at Jenny Newman Lake. Anglers here can expect to be kept busy! At sunset, free campfire programs that change regularly are on tap at the amphitheater. Take a guided horseback trail ride through the park or enjoy climbing the 85-foot Lincoln Journal Tower which provides a spectacular view from its observation deck from any direction. The Platte River Valley unfolds before you, creating a breathtaking vista. Pick up a copy of the PATHFINDER, your complete guide to park activities in the park office.
