The Setting
Ecosystems includes trials that wind through hardwood forests, woodland marshes and sandy beaches
Trees in the campground include Canopy Trees: Sweet Gum, Maple, Oaks, Yellow Popular, Locust, Beech, Ash and Black Gum, Sycamore, Virginia Pine
Under story trees and scrubs include: holly, Dogwood, Redbud, Hornbeam, Mountain Laurel, Blueberry and Viburnum
The campground is located near the Potomac River
Westmoreland State park is one of the original historic state parks built by the Civilian Conservations Corps in the 1930’s. It’s bordered by Stratford Hall Plantation, the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. Stratford Hall Plantation and Westmoreland State Park were once part of Wakefield Plantation, George Washington’s Birthplace.
Westmoreland State Park in renowned for the CCC structures that were built in the 1930’s. Log Cabins, stonewalls and ditches are still is use. Horse Head Cliffs are a favourite attraction. Visitor can view eagles foraging. There is also a clear view of Maryland and the Potomac River.
The Facility
133 Campsites with 20 or 30 amp electric and water hookups
74 – Standard campsites, no hookups
Campsites have either fire ring grills or box grills, all of which allow campfires.
One group campsite for up to 40 people, no hookups, tents only. Bathhouse available. Campfires and cooking allowed in provided fire-rings or grills only.
Three group campsites for up to 24 per site. Each has four 20' x 20' tent pads, one fire-ring, a large pedestal grill and four picnic tables.
All campsites are in shaded areas, many have been designed for maxiumum privacy with the use of native shrubs and under story trees.
Meeting/Conference Facility that includes a full kitchen, AV equipment, breakout rooms, deck with tables and fenced in area that includes picnic tables.
The playground is located within walking distance of all three campgrounds
